Modak - Meaning in different languages

Modaks (Indian sweet dumplings) are the most important offerings during Ganeshotsav. Modak is believed to be Lord Ganesha’s favorite food. Literal meaning of Modak: Moda means joy... so modak means "one that brings joy".

Modak is known by different names in various parts of the world. Here is the meaning of Modak in various languages:

Modak is called Sweet Dumplings in English
Modak is called Modak in Marathi ;)
Modak is called Modagam in Tamil
In Telugu, the similar sweet offered as prasad is called Undrallu (prepared from rice flour) .
Modak is called Modhaka in Kannada

They are called " Undraallu " in Telugu.

Google up the word if you dont believe me.

By the way "raallu" means stones in Telugu.
